Øresunddirekt's Work with Border Obstacles

To ensure that citizens and businesses can make the most of the opportunities in the Øresund region, it is important to minimise border obstacles between Denmark and Sweden.

Øresunddirekt actively contributes to identifying and helping resolve border obstacles at both regional and Nordic level. Through our close contact with citizens, businesses and public authorities, we help highlight challenges that affect cross-border mobility and cooperation across Øresund.

The Freedom of Movement Council – Nordic Cooperation

The Nordic Council of Ministers works to strengthen cooperation between the Nordic countries and to identify and remove border obstacles. This work is carried out by the Freedom of Movement Council, Grænsehindringsrådet, which consists of representatives from all Nordic countries, including Greenland, Åland and the Faroe Islands.

Grænsehindringsrådet aims to resolve 5–8 border obstacles each year in areas such as the labour market, social security, education and business. Each case is followed until it has either been resolved or it has been established that a solution is not possible.

Grænsehindringsrådet works with organisations across the Nordic region, including Øresunddirekt. Øresunddirekt collects information about the border obstacles experienced by citizens and businesses between Denmark and Sweden and shares this knowledge with the Council.

Greater Copenhagen – Regional Cooperation on Border Obstacles

Greater Copenhagen is a political partnership between Eastern Denmark and Southern Sweden in the Øresund region. One of its focus areas is identifying and helping to address border obstacles between Denmark and Sweden.

The aim is to remove barriers that limit mobility and growth in the region. Øresunddirekt contributes to Greater Copenhagen's efforts to support a well-integrated cross-border labour market.
