You should be aware that in Sweden there is a distinction between the right to leave and the right to benefits. These are two different systems. It is Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency) that calculates what you can get in benefits during your leave.

Parental leave

In Sweden, you are entitled to parental leave with benefits for a total of 480 days. There are various ways to go on a flexible leave, where, for instance, you save days for later use.

Study leave

If you as an employee want to educate yourself, you are entitled to take leave from your job. The education must be approved and teaching must follow a course or curriculum.

In addition, you must have been employed by the employer for the past 6 months or 12 months in the last 2 years. The employer has the right to postpone the leave to a later date than the time you wanted.
